Barbara Sue (Gipe) Eby fell asleep for the last time on December 10, 2021, in her home surrounded by her family. She had lived 66 years full of love and service to her family, her community, and most of all to her God. She was born on September 1, 1955, as the eldest daughter of the late Elwood Grove and Orpha Mable (Skiles) Gipe. They raised her outside of Chambersburg, PA and she graduated in the Chambersburg High School class of 1973. On July 2, 1977, she married Christian Earl Eby, and they embarked on a lifetime of Christian ministry together. Over the next 44 years they worked with the racial reconciliation ministry of Voice of Calvary in Jackson, MS, the prison ministry of Prison Fellowship in Reston, VA, community and youth outreach with an inner-city Church of the Brethren church in Philadelphia, PA, teaching English in churches for 3 years in the Dominican Republic, and since 2004 a team pastoral ministry at the Trinity Fellowship Church of the Brethren in Waynesboro, PA. Barb had a strong interest in the pursuit of Godly knowledge and the reading of many books covering culture, psychology, medical science, and theology. Her favorite book was the Bible in which she invested much time in study both individually and in groups. She used her spiritual gift of teaching in her home as a home schoolteacher of her sons, (she referred to herself as the grammar Queen) and with her spiritual family in teaching and investing in Sunday School children and women's group's, In her later years, Barb both advocated for in-home care for the elderly and worked as an in-home health care provider. She also organized the Chambersburg Released Time/Bible Adventure ministry that teaches children in public schools about the Bible. Barbara's battle against cancer started in March 2004, and for the last six years courageously fought the battle against stage four metastatic breast cancer. Now in death, she is finally healed and her faith in Jesus Christ enables her to no longer see in a mirror dimly, but face to face, and she no longer knows in part but knows fully, even as she is fully known.

Any who doubt that Jesus Christ is alive should have met Barb, whose life evidenced the truth and beauty of His presence and His light in her. Barb will be missed by many for her gifts of hospitality (of which her excellent cooking was not a small part) and service, given in loving care to those around her. After meeting Earl and later experiencing salvation and transformation through faith in the Spirit and blood of Jesus, she became passionate about Christian missions, caregiving, mentoring younger women in the faith, and living a life of simplicity and radical obedience to Jesus.

If our lives are like ripples in a pond spreading out to touch others in ways that we'll never know, Barb's life was like a splash. Her simple faithfulness in everyday acts of encouragement, sharing practical spiritual wisdom and insights, and contagious love to those around her, built up over her lifetime till the impact of them can't be counted but only told through the memories held by all who knew her. Barb is survived and greatly missed by her husband Chrisitan Earl Eby, her sons Christopher Earl (LaVonne) Eby, Harrisburg, PA, and Bryan Elwood (Lauren) Eby, Spring Grove, PA, and grandsons James and Max. In addition, she is survived by two brothers, Stanley (Carol) Gipe, and Mark Gipe both of Chambersburg, and three sisters, Diane (Gregory) Lesher, and Jane (Kenneth III) Oyler, Waynesboro, PA, and Becky (Scott) Oyler of Modesto CA, and Numerous nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews. One nephew Trae Oyler, and one niece Jaina Oyler preceded Barabra in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to help people re-entering from incarceration at Harken House Ministries (In care of Patrick Matthews, 75 South Franklin St. Chambersburg, PA 17201).
